Verified Palace of the Raja of Kutlehar

Himachal Pradesh, India

The Palace of the Raja of Kutlehar, often called the Kutlehar Palace or Rajmahal Palace, is a historic hill palace in Raipur Maidan in the Una district of Himachal Pradesh that was the seat of the erstwhile Kutlehar princely state ruled by the Pal dynasty’s Kutleharia clan.

The palace complex, which includes the main building and attached structures, was once part of a larger estate and is associated with the royal family of Raja Mahendra Singh and his successors, including the current head Raja Rupendra Palji, and is known in local lore for its old Durbar (court) hall and ceremonial architecture.

The palace suffered a devastating fire in 2010 that left the Durbar hall and other parts of the building in extreme disrepair and severely damaged, and despite its historical significance, it remains largely in a ruined state rather than being restored as a heritage hotel or museum. Visitors can locate the palace at Raipur Maidan, about 20 km from Una town, and while access is possible, the site is not developed for tourism and is mainly a quiet, decaying monument recalling the region’s princely past.
