Palaita Fortress
Palaita, Rajasthan, India
Palaita Fortress (also called Palayatha or Palaitha Fort) is a historic hill fort located in the village of Palaita in Antah tehsil of Baran district, Rajasthan, India.
The fort sits on elevated ground near the village and is associated with the old jagir (estate) of Palaitha, which was formally established in 1647 when Mughal emperor Shah Jahan issued an imperial decree granting the estate to a local Rajput ruler.
Over the centuries, the structure has served as a defensive stronghold and a symbol of regional authority, and today it stands as a lesser-known but culturally significant tourist attraction in the Baran–Kota area, often visited along with nearby temples and rural landscapes. Palaita Fortress offers visitors a glimpse into Rajasthan’s medieval fortification tradition, with rough stone walls, strategic viewpoints, and an atmosphere shaped by its remote, hilly setting.
