Pebble Island

Pebble Island is one of the larger islands in the Falkland Islands archipelago, lying to the north of West Falkland in the South Atlantic and forming part of the British Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom.

It is about 30–35 kilometers long and just under 6–7 kilometers wide at its widest, with a mix of low‑lying heathland, marshy ponds, and a more rugged western section dominated by small hills and rocky coastline.

The island is best known for its long stretches of white‑sand beaches, rich wildlife (including several breeding penguin species, cormorants, and waterfowl), and its status as an important bird area, as well as its history as a working sheep farm since the nineteenth century and its role in the 1982 Falklands War, where an SAS raid targeted an Argentine airfield still visible in the wreckage on the island.

Today Pebble Island has only a tiny local population and a small lodge‑based tourism offering, giving visitors a quiet, remote experience of Falklands wildlife, walking, and wartime history.
