Polesden Lacey
UK, United Kingdom
Polesden Lacey is an Edwardian country house and estate set on the North Downs in Great Bookham, near Dorking in Surrey, about 25 miles south of central London.
The core house was built in the 1820s and then transformed into a lavish Edwardian retreat in 1906 for the socialite Dame Margaret Greville, who used it as a glittering weekend home for royalty, politicians, and high‑society guests.
Today it is owned and run by the National Trust and is one of the Trust’s most popular properties, known for its grand interiors, art collections, and beautifully framed views over the Surrey Hills. The surrounding 1,600‑acre estate includes formal gardens such as the Rose Garden and herbaceous borders, woodland paths, and rolling downland, combining a stately‑home atmosphere with countryside walks and family‑friendly trails.
