Positano is a picturesque cliffside town on Italy's Amalfi Coast in the Campania region, often called the "pearl of the Amalfi Coast" and considered the most beautiful town along this UNESCO World Heritage site.

This vertical village features colorful buildings that cascade steeply down to the sea, creating a postcard-perfect scene that has attracted writers, artists, and celebrities since the 1940s. With ancient origins dating back to Roman times, Positano was founded by people fleeing Paestum and likely gets its name from the Latin "pausa" meaning "place to stop," reflecting its history as a resting spot.

Though it was once a powerful maritime republic rivaling Amalfi, it became a quiet fishing village before being rediscovered by Russian artists and intellectuals around 1919, then popularized internationally after John Steinbeck wrote an essay about it in Harper's Bazaar in the 1950s.

The town's main attraction is Spiaggia Grande (Marina Grande), a vibrant pebble beach lined with cafes and restaurants that serves as the social hub, along with smaller beaches like Fornillo and Fiumicello.
