The fort has a Hanuman shrine and a well near the entrance, with a Ma ruti idol and a stand of holy basil inside. While some sources attribute its construction to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, others credit the Maratha naval leader Kanhoji Angre.
The fort served as a strategic base for maratha naval defense and trade control along the Konkan coast. It offers panoramic views of the sea and creek, and its well-preserved walls and bastions still reflect its past military importance.
