Qila Fort Jagtial
Jagtial, Telangana, India
Qila Fort in Jagtial, Telangana, is an impressive 17th-century star-shaped fort built during the reign of Nawab Ibrahim, a Mughal governor.
Constructed with stone and lime by two French engineers named Jack and Tal, after whom the town is partly named—the fort features a moat filled with water and originally had two large wooden gates operated with pulleys. It stands out as the only star-shaped fort in Telangana, with over 40 strategically placed cannons, many inscribed with the name of Mohammad Khasim, who played a role in its armament.
The fort also houses an 18th-century mosque called Jama Masjid, among other structures. Though much of the fort is now in ruins and has seen neglect over the years, restoration efforts have been made, and it remains a culturally significant monument that reflects a strong resemblance to European castles. It is surrounded by multiple water bodies and once held a row of rooms dedicated to ammunition storage.
Despite limited public access currently, the fort stands as a testament to the historical and military heritage of the Jagtial region.
