Qila Mubarak in Bathinda, Punjab, India, is one of the oldest surviving forts in the country, with origins dating back nearly 2,000 years to between 90 and 110 AD.
Originally built by Raja Dab to defend against invasions by the Huns, its bricks date to the Kushana period. The fort has a strategic location on elevated ground surrounded by desert, with 32 small and 4 large bastions providing strong defense. The fort's architecture includes a three-story gateway adorned with Mughal engravings and massive spiked doors.
It houses several significant structures such as Rani Mahal, where the famous Empress Razia Sultana was imprisoned, multiple palaces, gardens, and an intricate underground sewage system.
The fort has historical associations with Sikh Gurus, including Guru Nanak Dev and Guru Gobind Singh, and was renamed Gobindgarh by Baba Ala Singh to honor the tenth Sikh Guru. Qila Mubarak continues to be a pivotal cultural heritage site and a popular tourist attraction for its impressive architecture and rich history.
