Raigad Fort, located in the Sahyadri mountain range near Mahad in Maharashtra, served as the capital of the Maratha Empire from 1674 to 1818 under the legendary Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Raigad Fort was the site of Shivaji’s coronation in 1674, marking the formal establishment of the Maratha kingdom. Visitors can reach the fort via a long climb of 1,737 steps or choose a ropeway for easier access.

The fort stands today as a powerful symbol of Maratha pride, architectural brilliance, and enduring legacy in Indian history.
