Raja Sumer Singh Qila
Etawah, India
Raja Sumer Singh Qila in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, is a historic fort built by the brave Raja Sumer Singh, who ruled the area around the 15th century. The fort was constructed on a mound near the Yamuna River and designed with medieval architectural features including a Baradai with twelve intricately designed doors that confuse those who try to count them.
It had underground rooms and secret tunnels, one leading to the Yamuna River, allowing queens to access the river for bathing, and another connecting to Agra for strategic security. The fort's outer walls are made from black granite sourced from Jhansi and showcase a blend of traditional and RCC structural techniques.
Today, the fort area includes a guest house and a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman, and it is recognized as a symbol of Etawah's historical pride. The site offers panoramic views of the surrounding rugged ravines and has been partly restored while maintaining its grandeur and significance.
