Ratna Durga, also known as Ratnadurg Fort or Bhagawati Fort, is a prominent sea fort located near Ratnagiri in Maharashtra, India. It was originally built during the Bahamani Sultanate period and later captured by Adil Shah of Bijapur before being won by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1670.
The fort, spread over 120 acres and shaped like a horseshoe, is surrounded by the Arabian Sea on three sides. It has multiple bastions, including a lighthouse named Siddha Bastion, and offers panoramic views of the sea. The fort has seen rule by Maratha admiral Kanhoji Angre and the Peshwas before the British took control in 1818.
It houses the famed Bhagwati Temple, a major pilgrimage spot, and is known for its scenic beauty, historical significance, and architectural features like thick laterite stone walls. Although some parts of the fort face neglect today, it remains a cherished tourist and heritage site.
