Recco
Italy, Italy
Recco is a small coastal town in Liguria, Italy, located in the Gulf of Paradiso near Genoa. It has ancient roots dating back to Roman times when it was known as Recina.
The town was heavily damaged during World War II bombings but was rebuilt in the late 1940s and early 1950s, including the reconstruction of its vital railway bridge which became a symbol of Italy’s post-war recovery. Recco is famous for its traditional cheese focaccia, a local culinary specialty with medieval origins.
Architecturally, it features landmarks such as the 17th-century Sanctuary of the Madonna del Suffragio with a prominent bell tower, the Church of Our Lady of Grace, and several historic churches including San Giovanni Battista rebuilt after the war. The town’s seafront promenade, pebble beaches, and the narrow streets of the historic center contribute to its relaxed and authentic Ligurian atmosphere, combining its rich heritage with a welcoming coastal vibe.
