Rukmini Fort
Chidu, India
Rukmini Fort, also known as Rukmini Nati, is an archaeological site located in Chimiri village near Roing in Arunachal Pradesh, India. The ruins are believed to date back to the 14th or 15th century and are associated with a medieval hill fort likely linked to the Chutia Kingdom.
Excavations in the early 1970s uncovered remnants of brick structures including two rooms measuring approximately 10 by 10 meters and 10 by 12 meters, with burnt and baked bricks indicating a developed civilization. Local legend holds that the site was the palace of Princess Rukmini, daughter of King Bhismak, connecting it to Hindu mythology where Rukmini is the first queen of Lord Krishna.
Although the fort has historical significance and archaeological value, much of it was damaged, especially by a 1950 earthquake, and it remains a notable cultural heritage site reflecting the region's medieval past and local tribal traditions.
