Verified Salota Fort

Maharashtra, India

Salota Fort is a hill fort located in the Baglan region of Nashik district, Maharashtra, near the larger and historically significant Salher Fort. It is part of the twin forts, Salher and Salota, situated close to each other on the Sahyadri mountain range and separated by a narrow col.

Salota Fort served as additional protection to Salher Fort, which was an important strategic fort during the Maratha Empire. The fort is known for its rugged terrain and three successive gates leading to its main area, along with rock-cut water cisterns. A notable feature at the top is an idol of Lord Hanuman which is still worshipped by locals and trekkers. The fort can be accessed via the village of Waghambe, and climbing Salota Fort requires some level of physical effort due to its steep and rocky paths.

It is a favored destination for history enthusiasts and trekkers who appreciate its serene environment and panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Though Salota does not have a distinct documented history separate from Salher, it played a defensive role in the region's historic military activities.
