Sandymount Strand

Sandymount Strand is a long, largely flat sandy beach (or “strand”) on Dublin’s southside, facing Dublin Bay in the suburb of Sandymount, just a short distance southeast of the city centre.

It forms part of the South Bull sandbank and is included within the Dublin Bay Biosphere Reserve, giving it both ecological value and a quiet, open seascape feel. The beach is more popular for walking, jogging, and dog‑walking than for lying in the sun, as the sand is often wet and exposed at low tide, while the 2.5 km promenade road along its edge offers views across the bay toward the Poolbeg stacks, Howth, and Dun Laoghaire.

About halfway along the strand you can also see a small Martello tower, a historic 19th‑century coastal watchtower that now stands as a distinctive local landmark.
