Satbhaya Fisherman Village in Odisha's Kendrapara district was once a thriving coastal community of around 700 families relying on fishing and farming, but coastal erosion and cyclones have submerged most of it into the Bay of Bengal over decades.

Originally named after seven vanished "brother" villages, the area now stands largely abandoned as a barren expanse of sand and encroaching seawater, with nearly all residents relocated inland to Bagapatia under government rehabilitation schemes providing land and housing aid.

This poignant climate refugee site near Gahirmatha serves as India's first state-sponsored resettlement for erosion victims, though a few holdouts remain in makeshift huts amid ongoing environmental challenges.
