Savadatti Fort
Savadatti Yallamma, India
Savadatti Fort, also called Saundatti Fort, is an 18th-century military structure located on a small hill in Savadatti, Karnataka. Built between 1743 and 1751 by Jayappa Desai of the Navalgund Sirasangi Sansthan, the fort has an irregular nine-sided polygon shape fortified with eight bastions and surrounded by a moat.
It features a steep main gate accessible by about 30 steps, and inside lies a smaller fort housing the Kadasiddheshwara temple, which is known for over 200 intricate geometric carvings, some painted. The fort reflects the town's history, which was ruled by the Ratta dynasty from the 9th to 13th centuries before coming under the Nawab of Savanur and later Hyder Ali’s control.
Nearby, the temple of the goddess Yellamma (Renukadevi) on Yellammanagudda hill is a significant pilgrimage site attracting hundreds of devotees, particularly during major festivals.
