Verified Sezincote

UK, United Kingdom

Sezincote is a unique country estate in the Cotswolds, near Moreton‑in‑Marsh in Gloucestershire, built around a striking Neo‑Mughal house that looks more like an Indian palace than a typical English country house.

The house, completed in 1805 for the East India Company trader Charles Cockerell and designed by architect Samuel Pepys Cockerell with Indian‑inspired details, sits on a working farm of nearly 2,000 acres and is thought to have influenced the design of the Royal Pavilion in Brighton.

The surrounding gardens form a romantic, oriental‑style water landscape with a lake, seven linked pools, an Indian‑style bridge, a temple to the sun god Surya, and a Persian‑inspired “Garden of Paradise,” enhanced by later planting from the famous horticulturalist Graham Stuart Thomas.

Today Sezincote remains a privately owned estate open seasonally to visitors, offering guided tours of the house and strolls through its theatrical, exotic gardens in the heart of the Cotswolds.
