Shelling Hill Beach
Ballinamara, County Louth, Ireland, Ireland
Shelling Hill Beach, also known as Templetown Beach, is a sheltered, sandy beach in the small coastal village of Ballinamara on the Cooley Peninsula in County Louth, Ireland.
It lies on a south‑facing stretch of the Irish Sea coast, protected on either side by low‑lying rock promontories, which make the waters relatively calm and safe for families and swimming in summer. The beach is regularly awarded Blue Flag status for its clean water, well‑maintained shoreline, and good facilities, including parking, seasonal lifeguards, and easy access from the roadside.
Locals and visitors also know it for its seashell‑lined sand, scenic views of the surrounding hills, and opportunities for walking, beachcombing, and light water sports such as kite‑surfing and paddling.
