Shimokamo Tropical Botanical Gardens is a tropical garden in Minamiizu, Shizuoka, on the southern Izu Peninsula, located at Shimokamo Spa and known for growing about 2,000 species of tropical plants using the abundant heat from Shimokamo Onsen hot spring. The all-weather greenhouse features hibiscus, bougainvillea, Cattleya and dendrobium orchids, bananas, papaya, and pineapple, and visitors can see tropical fruits year-round, including the garden’s unique “miracle fruit” experience where sour taste becomes sweet, plus enjoy 100% tropical fruit juices, a restaurant, a fruit parlor, and an on-site sales section where you can buy plants and fruits. The garden is open daily except Wednesdays (9:30–15:00), has free admission, is pet-friendly with a leash, and is accessible by bus from Izu‑Kogo Station or by car about 15 minutes from Shimoda Station, with parking for 60 cars and 10 buses.
