Shirakawa Castle (Shirakawa‑jō), also known as Karame‑jō or Yūki‑Shirakawa‑jō, was a 14th‑ to 16th‑century hilltop castle located about 2 kilometers southeast of the center of present‑day Shirakawa City in northern Fukushima Prefecture, Japan.

It should not be confused with the later Edo‑period “Shirakawa Castle,” which is more properly known as Komine Castle in the same area. The castle was founded by the Yuki clan, who controlled the Shirakawa region, and served as their main stronghold during the Nanboku‑chō (Northern and Southern Courts) period and the Sengoku period, before being destroyed in 1590 during the campaign led by Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

The site is built on a 400‑meter elevation mountain ridge along the right bank of the Abukuma River, covering an area roughly 950 meters east–west by 550 meters north–south, and consists of several separate enclosures protected by clay ramparts and dry moats, typical of mountain castles of the time. Modern archaeological work between 2010 and 2015, carried out by the Shirakawa City Board of Education, uncovered remains and artifacts dating from the 14th to 16th centuries, leading to the site being designated a National Historic Site of Japan in 2016.

Today the ruins are open to the public as an undeveloped historical site, with earthworks, dry moats, and ramparts still visible among the woods, offering a quiet view of the surrounding landscape rather than a built tourist complex. The distinction between this medieval Shirakawa Castle and the more famous Komine Castle, which stands in the city center and is one of the 100 Fine Castles of Japan, is an important point of local history and for visitors exploring the area.
