Sikargarh Fort
Sikar, Rajasthan, India
Sikargarh Fort, located in the city of Sikar in Rajasthan, was built in the late 18th century by Rao Raja Devi Singh as a stronghold to defend the region. Its construction took about four years, completed in 1787, despite initial resistance from neighboring rulers who tried to disrupt the building process.
The fort stands on a hill about 531 feet high and features strong stone walls, multiple gates, and intricate defense structures including secret tunnels. It was historically used to imprison important leaders during the 1935 farmer's movement. Though parts of the fort have deteriorated over time, it retains architectural elements like granaries, water reservoirs, and residential quarters, reflecting the strategic and residential needs of the era.
The fort now serves as a cultural symbol of Sikar’s heritage and offers insights into the region’s royal past and military architecture.
