Sitabuldi Fort in Nagpur, Maharashtra, is a historic military fort built by the British in 1822 following their victory in the Battle of Sitabuldi in 1817, a significant conflict during the Third Anglo-Maratha War.

The fort is perched atop twin hillocks known as Badi Tekri and Choti Tekri, offering a commanding view over Nagpur and surrounding areas, strategically important for controlling the region. Constructed under the supervision of Captain Charles Jasper, the fort features thick stone walls made of black stone sourced from nearby areas, designed for defense with bastions and artillery placements.

Historically, the fort was the site where British military power was consolidated after defeating the Marathas led by Mudhoji II Bhonsle. Over time, it has been a key military garrison and a symbol of British colonial control in Central India.

Today, Sitabuldi Fort remains under the Indian Army’s jurisdiction and is generally closed to the public except on special occasions like Independence Day and Republic Day, when visitors can enter to explore its grounds and enjoy panoramic views of Nagpur city.

The fort also marks historic moments such as the hanging of Nawab Kadar Ali during the 1857 rebellion and has witnessed notable events like the audience of King George V. It stands as a significant cultural and historical monument in Nagpur, representing a blend of ethnic and colonial architectural influences.
