Sondai Fort, located near the village of Sondewadi in the Karjat region of Maharashtra's Raigad district, is a small hill fort known for its historical and natural significance.

Built during the 17th century under the Maratha ruler Shivaji Maharaj, it was primarily used as a watchtower to guard trade routes and monitor enemy movements. The fort sits at an elevation of about 1,200 to 1,575 feet above sea level and offers expansive views of nearby landmarks such as Morbe Dam, the Matheran mountain range, and several other forts like Prabalgad and Karnala.

The trek to Sondai Fort is considered easy to moderate, taking about 1 to 2 hours, and passes through lush forests, rocky patches, and carved stone steps. The summit has several ancient water cisterns and a small temple dedicated to the local goddess Sondai Devi, whose idol is placed under a sacred tree.

The fort is a favored destination for nature lovers, trekkers, and devotees due to its serene environment, scenic beauty, and cultural importance, making it an ideal short trek near Mumbai and Pune.
