Taila Baila Fort, located in the Mulshi taluka of Pune district, Maharashtra, is a unique natural fortification known for its striking geological features.

This fort is essentially a magmatic dyke, formed by cooled lava that created two towering basalt rock walls reaching about 1013 meters (3322 feet) in height, separated by a distinctive V-shaped notch. The fort's history is not well documented, but it is believed to have been an important watchtower during the Maratha Empire, offering strategic surveillance due to its commanding views of the surrounding region.

The village of Taila Baila, near the fort, historically served as a resting place for oxen transporting goods via mountain passes called Savashni Ghat and Waghjai Ghat, which connected the area to Konkan ports. The fort is also famous among adventure seekers for rock climbing and rappelling, given its steep cliffs and challenging terrain.

Although it lacks extensive fortifications found in other forts, the natural rock formations and few remnants like water tanks and temple ruins make it a fascinating destination, particularly popular with trekkers and climbers. Access to the summit requires mountaineering skills due to the technical climb involved, and the region features dense forests and scenic views of the Western Ghats.
