Tanba Kameyama Castle Ruins in Kameoka, Kyoto, are the remains of a late 16th-century castle built by Akechi Mitsuhide as a base for his campaign in Tanba and to guard the northwest approach to Kyoto.
Today, the main structures are gone, but the site still has restored stone walls and a quiet park-like setting, so it is more of a scenic historic ruin than a standing castle. The ruins are closely linked to the famous Honno-ji Incident, since Mitsuhide is said to have set out from this castle before attacking Oda Nobunaga.
They are easy to visit from Kameoka Station and are also known for autumn colors and the peaceful grounds maintained by the Ōmoto organization.
