Tanur Beach
Kerala, India
Tanur Beach, also known locally as Thooval Theeram or Ottumpuram Beach, is a long, relatively quiet stretch of golden sand on the shores of the Arabian Sea in the coastal town of Tanur, Malappuram district, Kerala.
It lies near several small adjoining beaches that are often grouped under the same “Tanur Beach” label, giving visitors a choice of spots for swimming, sunbathing, and long seaside walks with views of fishing boats and local life.
The area is known for its calm waters, scenic sunrises and sunsets, and clusters of unusual shells along the shore, as well as nearby historical sites such as the old Tanur Fort and the Keraladeshpuram Vishnu temple, which add a cultural‑maritime layer to the beach experience.
Being a working fishing town, Tanur also offers authentic local seafood, traditional architecture and a more laid‑back, less crowded atmosphere compared with some of Kerala’s more famous tourist beaches.
