The village features the ancient Thalner Fort, built in the 12th century and fortified over centuries, playing a crucial role in the region of Khandesh's history as a strategic military and commercial center. The fort stands on a small hill overlooking the river, surrounded on three sides by a moat and river, with five gates protecting its entrance.
Thalner was ruled by various dynasties including the Yadavas, Bahmanis, Faruqis, Mughals, Marathas, and British. The site contains notable tombs of Faruqi rulers showcasing Islamic architecture, and old temples dedicated to local deities.
