The Agricultural Museum
Giza, Egypt, Egypt
The Agricultural Museum in Giza, Egypt (located in the Dokki district) is the world's second-largest and second-most important museum dedicated to agriculture, after the one in Budapest, Hungary.
Established in 1930 in the palace of Princess Fatima Ismail and officially opened on January 15, 1938, it spans 30 acres and showcases Egypt's agricultural civilization from the Pharaonic era to the present day. The museum houses eight indoor sections including the Ancient Agricultural Museum, Cotton Museum, and Greek-Roman-Coptic-Islamic Museum, featuring rare artifacts like 15,000-year-old grain milling machines, extinct plants such as the sacred "barasa," ancient farming tools, and models depicting rural village life throughout Egypt's history.
After closing in 2017 for comprehensive renovation, the museum began trial operations in August 2025 with free admission, offering visitors insights into Egypt's biodiversity, traditional farming methods, and sustainable agriculture while surrounded by Pharaonic-style gardens with rare trees and plants.
