The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is a vast, modern museum situated just about two kilometers from the Giza Pyramids Plateau on the edge of the desert near Cairo. It was conceived as Egypt’s flagship archaeological museum and, when fully open, holds one of the world’s largest collections of ancient Egyptian artifacts, including the complete Tutankhamun tomb treasures reunited for the first time since their discovery. The building’s design frames views of the pyramids through large windows and features dramatic elements such as an 83‑ton statue of Ramesses II in the main hall and the world’s first suspended obelisk, visible through a glass floor. Spread across roughly 500,000 square meters, the museum blends spacious galleries, research and conservation spaces, and educational facilities, aiming to connect visitors with both the scale of Egypt’s ancient civilization and contemporary museum standards.
