The Kahlur Fort
Himachal Pradesh, India
The Kahlur Fort, located in Bilaspur (formerly known as Kahlur) in Himachal Pradesh, India, was built between 697 and 730 CE by Raja Kahal Chand, the sixth ruler of the Princely State of Kahlur.
This two-story stone fort has walls about two meters thick and is about 30 meters long on each side. Positioned atop a hill, the fort offers scenic views of the surrounding lush green hills and forests. The fort includes a small temple dedicated to Goddess Naina Devi with a stone idol inside. Historically, the Kahlur kingdom was ruled by the Hindu Rajput Chand dynasty, tracing their lineage through over 40 rulers.
The fort served as the royal residence and strategic defense point, featuring window-shaped openings for observation and defense. Though now in ruins, it remains a popular site for visitors and locals who enjoy its natural beauty and historical significance.
