The Plantation Garden
Norwich, United Kingdom
The Plantation Garden in Norwich is a hidden Victorian gem created between 1840 and 1870 by local businessman and Baptist minister Henry Trevor in a disused chalk quarry just outside the city walls on Earlham Road.
This three-acre site blends Gothic Revival and Italianate styles with striking features like a central Gothic fountain from 1857, ornate flint-and-brick terraces, rockeries, cascades, a rustic bridge, and a now-ruined Palm House that once sheltered exotic plants.
Rediscovered and restored by volunteers in the 1980s after decades of neglect, it offers a romantic, sunken oasis of winding paths, flower beds, and lush greenery perfect for peaceful strolls amid Norwich's urban bustle.
