Verified Tijara Fort

Hasanpurmafi Tijara, India

Tijara Fort, located in Hasanpurmafi Tijara in Rajasthan’s Alwar district, is a majestic 19th-century fort-palace complex started in 1835 by Maharaja Balwant Singh, the son of the King of Alwar.

Built in a unique Rajput-Afghan architectural style with some early colonial influences, the fort was intended to be a royal residence but remained unfinished due to Balwant Singh’s untimely death in 1845. The complex includes the Mardana Mahal for royal men, the Rani Mahal for queens, and the Hawa Mahal, or Palace of Winds, which overlooks a water body.

The design features ornate stonework, arches, open garden areas, and elephant motifs reflecting the Maharaja’s fondness for elephants. After falling into ruin, the fort was restored and converted into a heritage hotel by Neemrana Hotels in 2016, offering 101 uniquely designed suites named after India’s leading painters and designers.

Tijara Fort today blends historical grandeur with modern luxury, presenting a glimpse into Rajasthan’s royal past within a stunning hilltop setting surrounded by the scenic Aravalli hills.
