Tokyo Skytree
Tokyo, Japan
Tokyo Skytree is a very tall broadcasting and observation tower found in Sumida, Tokyo, Japan. It is the tallest structure in Japan, standing 634 meters (2,080 feet) high. The tower opened to the public on May 22, 2012, and has quickly become a major symbol of modern Tokyo.
The main purpose of Tokyo Skytree is to help with television and radio broadcasting. Its great height allows signals to reach across the busy city, even with many tall buildings around. Besides its broadcasting role, the Skytree is famous as a tourist destination, drawing millions of visitors each year.
The tower has two main observation decks open to visitors. The lower deck, called the Tembo Deck, is 350 meters above the ground and offers wide views of all of Tokyo. There are restaurants and photo spots here. The higher deck, called the Tembo Galleria, is at 450 meters and has a spiral ramp where visitors can feel as if they are walking in the air high above the city. On clear days, you can even see Mount Fuji in the distance.
Tokyo Skytree is known for its unique design. The base uses a triangular shape, but as it rises higher, it becomes more round, making the tower both stable and stylish. Its color, called "Skytree White," is inspired by a traditional Japanese blue. The structure is specially built to stand strong during earthquakes, using advanced engineering methods.
The name "Skytree" was chosen by a public vote, and the tower’s height of 634 meters is memorable because the numbers can be read as "Musashi," the old name for the region where the tower is located.
Around the base of the tower is a complex called Tokyo Skytree Town, which has many shops, restaurants, an aquarium, and a planetarium. The area provides lots of fun activities for visitors of all ages.
At night, the tower is beautifully lit with different colors, making it a stunning part of Tokyo’s skyline.
