Torre Alfina
Italy, Italy
Torre Alfina is a picturesque medieval village in the Lazio region, near the borders of Umbria and Tuscany, and is best known for its impressive castle that dominates the surrounding landscape.
The settlement grew around a watchtower that was later expanded into a fortress, with documented history dating back to at least the 13th century. Over the centuries, the castle evolved from a defensive stronghold into an elegant Renaissance residence and was later transformed into its current neo-Gothic appearance in the 19th century.
Today, Torre Alfina is recognized as one of Italy’s most beautiful villages and is also famous for the nearby Bosco del Sasseto, a remarkable woodland often described as a fairy-tale forest.
