Turun yliopiston kasvitieteellinen puutarha (University of Turku Botanical Garden) is a botanical garden maintained by the University of Turku, located on Ruissalo island in Turku, Finland, and serves as both a center for scientific research and a public showcase for the fascinating world of plants.
The garden features outdoor and indoor gardens with over 5,000 plant species and varieties from all climate zones, ranging from rainforest to desert, including annuals, meadow flowers, exotic trees, shrubs, wetland plants, and both exotic rareeties and familiar house plants. The six greenhouses at the Botanical Garden contain approximately 2,000 plant species or cultivars, while the outdoor gardens span a larger area with new landscapes featuring calming ponds containing colorful waterlilies and other wetland plants.
The garden is open year-round, with the outdoor garden accessible daily from 8:00 to 20:00 and the greenhouses open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 to 17:00 (with extended hours until 19:00 on Wednesdays), and admission is 12 euros for adults and 6 euros for reduced fare, while children enter free.
Visitors can enjoy coffee, pulla (Finnish cardamom bread), and lunch at the cozy Café Vanha Tammi located inside the garden, which offers refreshments in a tropical setting regardless of the season. The garden is accessible with disabled parking, accessible toilets, and guided tours for special groups can be booked by email, making it suitable for both adults and children.
