Uchangidurga Fort, located near Davanagere in Karnataka, is an ancient hill fort dating back to around 971 AD. The fort has been under the control of many dynasties including the Kadambas, Pallavas, Chalukyas, Pandyas, Hoysalas, Vijayanagara rulers, Nayakas, Hyder Ali, Tipu Sultan, and finally the British after the Anglo-Mysore Wars.
Known for its strategic location atop a granite hillock with multiple peaks, the fort features remnants of gateways, bastions, water tanks, and a temple dedicated to the local deity Uchangamma. It served as a key military and administrative site with water reservoirs and stone defenses suited to its hilly terrain.
Though much of the fort is now in ruins due to weathering and human impact, it remains a significant historical site recently taken under the Archaeological Survey of India for preservation and is known for its panoramic views and rich historical legacy.
