Ueharajō Castle Ruins
Chino, Japan
Ueharajō Castle Ruins in Chino, Japan, sit on Konpirayama mountain and were originally built as the main base of the Suwa clan, local lords linked to the ancient Suwa Taisha shrine.
The castle played a crucial role in controlling the Suwa basin, a strategic crossroads connecting several key valleys in Shinano Province. It was involved in regional conflicts during the 16th century, including battles with the Takeda clan.
The castle fell to Takeda Shingen in 1542 and then served as a military base for the Takeda during their expansions. After the decline of the Takeda clan following defeats by Oda Nobunaga, the castle was abandoned. Today, only earthworks, clay walls, and dry moats remain, with the site holding great historical significance linked to the rise and fall of regional samurai powers.
