Verified Umaid Bhawan Palace

Jodhpur, India

Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, is one of the world's largest private residences, built between 1929 and 1943 under Maharaja Umaid Singh's patronage during a severe famine.

Designed by British architect Henry Vaughan Lanchester, the palace is a stunning blend of Indian and Western architectural styles, notably the Indo-Deco style, featuring golden sandstone exteriors, Makrana marble interiors, and Burmese teak woodwork.

The palace boasts 347 rooms, grand domes, spacious courtyards, a large banquet hall, and a museum exhibiting royal artifacts and vintage cars. Strategically constructed on Chittar Hill, it not only provided employment to famine-stricken farmers but now serves as a luxury hotel managed by Taj Hotels, while part of it remains the royal family's residence.

The palace's architectural grandeur, historical significance, and lush gardens make it a prominent symbol of Rajasthan's royal heritage and a popular tourist destination.
