Victoria Memorial
Kolkata, West Bengal, India
Victoria Memorial is a grand white‑marble building in the heart of Kolkata, set in the middle of the Maidan and surrounded by 64 acres of well‑kept gardens. It was built between 1906 and 1921 by the British as a monument to Queen Victoria, Empress of India, and now serves as a museum, art gallery, and library focused on India’s colonial and royal history. The architecture blends British Renaissance‑style design with subtle Indian elements, and its halls display paintings, sculptures, artifacts, and manuscripts connected to the British‑Indian past. Today it is one of Kolkata’s most photographed landmarks and a popular cultural and family‑outing spot by the city’s large central park.
