West Wycombe Park

England, United Kingdom

West Wycombe Park is a Palladian country house and estate in Buckinghamshire, set in about 45 acres of landscaped parkland near the village of West Wycombe in the Chilterns. The house was built and expanded between 1740 and 1800 by the Dashwood family, led by Sir Francis Dashwood, and has a striking, highly theatrical Italianate facade with temple‑like fronts that have featured in several period‑film and TV productions. Inside, the house shows a mix of Baroque, Rococo, and classical styles, with painted ceilings, marbled walls, ornate fireplaces, and family portraits and heirlooms displayed in around eight main rooms. The wider estate includes formal and pleasure gardens, a music temple, a small lake, and a constellation of monuments and eye‑catchers scattered across the hill and park, all of which are now partially managed in partnership with the National Trust. The house and grounds open seasonally to visitors, who come for the architecture, the dramatic interior decoration, and the scenic walking routes around the village and West Wycombe Hill.
