Worli Fort, located in Mumbai’s Worli area, was built by the British around 1675 to guard the southern coast and oversee Mahim Bay when Mumbai was composed of seven islands.

The fort served as a lookout for enemy ships and pirates, helping to protect the growing port city. Constructed using local basalt rock, the fort features ramparts, bastions, gateways, and an arched entrance leading to defensive tunnels. Despite its strategic value, the fort fell into disrepair over the centuries and was surrounded by a fishing village.

It gained renewed attention after the construction of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, offering stunning views of the Arabian Sea and cityscape. Although renovations have altered some of its original character, the fort remains a popular spot for history enthusiasts and locals, symbolizing Mumbai’s colonial past and maritime heritage.

The fort’s location atop Worli Hill provides panoramic views, making it a favored place to enjoy sunsets and connect with the city’s coastal history.
