China, China
Xiamen Botanical Garden (Northwest Gate) is one of the main entrances to Xiamen Botanical Garden (also called Wanshi Botanical Garden), a 493-hectare (4.91 square kilometer) AAAAA-level scenic area founded in 1960 in the Siming District of Xiamen Island, Fujian Province, China, nestled among Wanshi Mountain near Xiamen University, Nanputuo Temple, and Wulao Peak.
The garden is the first botanical garden in Fujian Province and serves as a comprehensive facility integrating plant species preservation, scientific research, public education, ecological protection, tourism services, and urban landscaping, welcoming over 4 million visitors annually with more than 1 million visitors per year documented.
It houses over 9,000 species of plants across 16 special thematic areas including the Succulent Garden (China's largest succulent plant display), Cacti Garden, Rainforest Area, Araucaria Lawn, Cycads Garden, Palm Garden, Bamboo Garden, Camellia Garden, Medical Plants Garden, and the National Bougainvillea Germplasm Resource Bank conserving more than 420 varieties of bougainvillea.
The Northwest Gate provides access to this green paradise, though most visitors prefer the West Gate as the most accessible entrance near Xiamen Metro Line 1's Zhongshan Park Station, and many recommend entering from the west gate and taking the garden bus to the south gate to see the main attractions including the stunning rainforest area with mist systems and the dramatic succulent mountain landscapes.
