Yedravi Fort
Karnataka, India
Parasgad Fort, also known as Yedravi Fort, is a ruined hill fortress built by the Ratta dynasty in the 10th century, perched two kilometres south of Saundatti in Karnataka’s Belgaum district. The irregular plateau spans about 500 by 300 metres, with steep, rocky slopes dotted with brush and a deep central gorge. At its summit stands a small ruined shrine to Maruthi amid the foundations of old houses.
A steep stone stairway leads down to Yedravi village past the Ramatheertha, a 30-by-6-metre spring-fed tank, and a cave housing ancient statues of Jamadagni, Parashurama, Rama and Sita alongside a Shivalinga with Nandi. An inscription dated Shaka 901 (AD 979) near the village temple refers to Yedravi as “Elarame,” linking the site’s medieval origins to its present-day legacy.
