Jamaica is an island country in the Caribbean Sea, part of the Greater Antilles, located south of Cuba and west of Hispaniola. Kingston is its capital and largest city. The population is around 2.7 million, primarily descended from African slaves brought during colonial times. English is the official language, with Jamaican Creole widely spoken.

Jamaica has a constitutional monarchy with the British monarch as the head of state, represented locally by a governor-general. Its geography includes coastal lowlands, limestone plateaus, and mountainous interior regions, including the Blue Mountains.

The economy is based on tourism, agriculture (especially sugar), mining (bauxite and alumina), and manufacturing. Jamaica gained independence from Britain in 1962 and is renowned for its vibrant culture, particularly in music and sports.
