Niger
Niger is a landlocked country in West Africa, bordered by Algeria, Libya, Chad, Nigeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, and Mali. With a population of around 25–27 million, most people live in the southern part where the Niger River provides water for agriculture. Its capital city is Niamey.
Over 80% of Niger’s land lies in the Sahara Desert, making the climate largely arid and the economy dependent on subsistence agriculture and mining, especially uranium. The country is ethnically diverse, with the Hausa people being the largest group, and French is the official language.
Niger has experienced multiple coups since its independence from France in 1960 and faces challenges such as poverty, desertification, high fertility rates, and recurring droughts.
