Aizkraukles Pilsdrupas, or the Aizkraukle Castle Ruins, are the remains of a medieval fortress located on the right bank of the Daugava River near the mouth of the Karikste River in Aizkraukle Parish, Latvia. The castle was built during the Middle Ages by the Livonian Order and served as an important defensive and administrative center in the region. Over the centuries, the castle changed hands during regional conflicts and was eventually destroyed during wars in the 17th century. Today, only parts of the foundations and sections of the stone walls remain, including a wall fragment about five meters high. The ruins are valued as a historic landmark and offer visitors a glimpse into Latvia’s medieval past, along with scenic views of the surrounding Daugava River landscape. The site is a popular local attraction, although visitors are generally advised to admire the ruins from a safe distance due to their fragile condition and location on private property.
