Krustpils Castle

Jēkabpils, Latvia, Latvia

---

Krustpils Castle is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Latvia, located on the right bank of the Daugava River in Jēkabpils.

Built between the 13th and 14th centuries under the authority of the Archbishop of Riga, it served as an important defensive and administrative stronghold on the eastern frontier of medieval Livonia. Over the centuries, the castle experienced wars, changes in ownership, and numerous reconstructions. From 1585 until the early 20th century, it belonged to the Korff family, who transformed it from a medieval fortress into a noble residence, adding Baroque architectural features.

Today, Krustpils Castle houses the Jēkabpils History Museum, where visitors can explore exhibitions on local history, archaeology, and culture. Its restored halls, tower, and historic architecture make it one of the most important cultural and historical attractions in the region.
