Aizpute Castle is a medieval castle ruin located in the town of Aizpute in South Kurzeme Municipality, Latvia. Originally built by the Livonian Order in 1248 on the banks of the Tebra River, it played an important role as a military and administrative stronghold during the Middle Ages. Over the centuries, the castle was expanded with living quarters, cellars, and defensive structures, but it suffered significant damage during 17th century wars and gradually fell into ruin. Today, parts of its stone walls and architectural features remain, offering insight into medieval Baltic castle design. The castle is one of Aizpute’s most important historical landmarks and forms part of the town’s rich cultural heritage.
