First mentioned in records by 1237 with the castle itself documented in 1285, it served as a key stronghold for the powerful Vaz lords before passing to other noble families after their line ended.
Recognized as a Swiss heritage site of national significance, the remnants feature typical high medieval defensive architecture and are accessible along the Domleschg Castle Trail amid the scenic Viamala Region.
